The Cottages is Iowa’s first freestanding small house nursing home for people with dementia. The two cottages located at our South campus are home to 16 residents each. Each resident lives in a private bedroom with an attached bathroom.
This smaller care setting allows seniors to feel more at home and create stronger connections with their consistent caregivers and fellow residents. Additionally, spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms are private—meaning every senior has access to a space that is uniquely theirs, an integral part of feeling at home.

More than beautiful buildings.
The cottage environment supports daily life in the household.
It’s a family home, with comfortable gathering spaces for dining, playing games, watching TV, listening to music, talking, reading or simply relaxing.
An open kitchen with skylights allows residents to participate in preparing family-style meals and to smell what’s being cooked.
Acoustics and natural lighting were designed specifically to provide a calming, peaceful environment. The enclosed courtyard offers a safe space to be outdoors with caregivers.
Comfortable & Personalized
When more care is required in mid- to late-stage dementia, nursing care is provided in the household model of care. This matches a comfortable environment with personalized care that allows seniors facing a dementia diagnosis to live their best day, however that looks.
